“Daughter, will you remember to light the lights? Do you still light a candle?”
“Yes, Mama, yes.”

Every year, I am fairly certain my arrangement of the candles is incorrect. (Does the menorah have all candles at the beginning of Hanukkah and I only light the correct ones?) I relearn the proper order. I cannot remember if I leave the shamash burning or not.
I would worry about offending Judaism. I still do, in the beginning. Then I read the story of the Maccabees. And I think of my own path and that of my family.
I choose to struggle with awkward reverence. Plus, I have found a few websites to help me along the way.
“Yes, mama. I light the candles.”
Much love, light, joy to you. Always,
